My Mom bought some Almay Smart Shade Makeup in Light at Walgreen’s.
I have to admit, I thought it would be crap. I was skeptical of the “color matching” properties and figured that it was all hype about how it goes on white and then matches to your skin color. It seemed like hocus pocus or moods rings or other tomfoolery.
She tried it and raved about it. She said it went on smoother than her Bobbi Brown concealer, was a great color and didn’t seem too dry or cakey. I thought, “Wha? Drugstore concealer better than something from the make up counter?”
She offered to let me try it out and see what I thought. I’ve never been drawn to Almay products in the past. I figured I would hate it, as I have not had good luck with concealers of any brand. My undereye area is very crepey and often looks like crushed up, damp tissue paper with beige paint over it after I put on concealer. It can be horrifying, so I pretty much haven’t been using concealer for quite a while.
So, the other day, I gave it a go. I squeezed a bit on the back of my hand. It came out white and then turned beige-y when it came in contact with air and became even less white when I swished my brush around in it. The consistency was creamy and smooth without being runny or thin. I swiped some on my eyelid, below my eye and on my lower lash line. It went on like a dream and concealed all the purple tones, blue veins, and pink skin under my brow bone. The color appeared shear and was nice and light for my skin. It didn’t even crinkle up the thin skin under my eyes. I was amazed.
But I thought, “Yeah, it looks good now, but I bet it will wear badly and look crummy by the end of the day.” So I monitored the appearance of the concealer as the day went on. What I observed was crease-free, smooth and sheer. It never ran, smudged or migrated into fine lines.
I’ve tried a lot of concealers and this is the best one so far. Happy day! I am floored that it’s only $9 and I plan to purchase a tube for myself post haste.
