Are You A Cat Person Or A Dog Person?

So, Aaron and I went to the Petsmart in Woodinville on Saturday morning to meet Wendell and purportedly, to adopt him post haste (Oasis, the organization that saved Wendell, is located on Whidbey Island, but they bring the cats to Petsmart to attract a wider audience). When we got there, we saw all the kitties in kitty cages and zeroed in on them.

Wendell had beautiful, albeit, very long fur. He also seemed not to be the least bit interested in us. He was snoozing and snacking, but that was about it. He allowed me to pick him up, but he wouldn't make eye contact with me or purr or anything. It was quite disappointing. (Sure, it was a stressful situation, but some of the other cats seemed quite enamored with us - like a cute cat named Panther (who must have been adopted because he's not on Petfinder anymore). But, remember, we were trying to get a cat who can't scratch up the furniture or us.)

We also met another declawed kitty named, Latte (who also isn't listed online anymore). I asked to hold her and when I did, a huge puff of cat fur coated my face, and when Latte saw a puppy, she tried to climb my stomach like a telephone pole, thus scratching me and drawing blood on my chest (her back claws were still intact). Ouch! I put her back in her carrying cage immediately.

Aaron asked me what I wanted to do, and I hesitated. You see, there was a puppy training class taking place near where the cat adoption area was located. And, ah, let's just say that my attention was diverted to a cute Beagle puppy and, even cuter, a Golden Retriever puppy. I thought to myself, "Do I just want a cat because I think it will be a good interim pet until I can make the commitment to get a dog?? Gadzooks, I think we're onto something..."

Meanwhile, behind the scenes, I wasn't feeling well. (I found out at the doc yesterday that I have...wait for it...bronchitis. Uck.)

So, we decided it wasn't the day to adopt a new kitty, we made a pit stop at Jamba Juice, and we came home.

We're putting the whole getting-a-pet plan on the backburner for now and I am going to try to wean myself off of Petfinder until we're ready to adopt a dog. But I'm not going to cut out the Cute Overload, dammit. I have to fill my daily cute quotient needs.
