It's Curtains For The Vertical Blinds

When we moved into the condo, the living room sliding glass door was equipped with vertical blinds. I hated them from the moment I laid eyes on them, but they worked properly and we had other things that we wanted to decorate first, so they got moved to the proverbial back burner.

Over the past eleven months, I have continued to loathe the vertical blinds, and when I saw them being removed from a home recently featured in "Designed to Sell", I decided they had to go. Thankfully, that same week, JCPenney was having a sale on the Vertatex Manhattan style curtains (in a color called "Cloud", which really looks like taupe) and the matching hardware that we have in the office and the bedroom. I hustled over to purchase them.

This past Sunday, I helped Aaron to tackle the project of putting up the new curtains. But when we got the old blinds down and tried to put up the curtain rod, we realized that it was way too long. So, we had to load into the car and head to Northgate. Thankfully, the design Gods were smiling upon us, and we were able to exchange the old rod for a new smaller one and still get the sale price, too.

After some spackling and re-touching of the paint to fill the holes from the vertical blind hardware, we had our new curtains up and looking very spiffy.

They add a soft, warm feeling to the living room and make me feel like I'm at home, instead of in a dentist's waiting area.

It's a happy ending to my living room window treatment woes.

I have the exact same ugly-ass plastic blinds in my apt. I've thought about adding new curtains but it's a rental and I want to get as much use out of them as possible. I have another 8 mos. left on my lease and I guess that would make sense using Erica's cost per use model.

I would say definitely go for new curtains. The cost per use model is a good idea to apply, too, because that can help you budget. Plus, you might be able to use the curtains in your next place.

And, it's mortifying to have stuff in your home that they're throwing away and updating on HGTV, so that alone sealed the deal for me.

Yes yes yes... go with your own curtains. They can easily be packed away and used in a new place. Plus, the cost-per-use quotient gets a few bonus points for being able to use them in TWO dwellings!
