Overthrow The Empire (Waist)

Is it just me, or does anyone else have problems with this type of top? I like them on others, but on me they cut my boobs in half horizontally. And I'm guessing all that gathering and ruching is supposed to enhance the bustline, but I'm actually ok with some average action in that department. No need to call attention to "the girls" in an everyday kind of environment.

These shirts are everywhere and they're driving me batshit crazy. I hate empire waists with a passion and hope they go totally out of style like scrunchies...straight to the land of:

"Oh my god, remember those stupid empire waist shirts?"

"Oh, yeah, I threw mine out ages ago. Those shirts are so 2006."

That is my dream and hopefully, it will become a reality.

Oh my god! I am totally with you. I must admit I bought one empire-style shirt about a year or two ago that I still think is cute (it has super long kitten sleeves and is really low-cut for evenings out), but for the most part, these are freakin' maternity shirts.

Also, if you watch any of the "What Not To Wear" or "How Do I Look?" shows, you will notice that they now pronounce the word "am-peer" instead of "em-pire." It's totally annoying. It's like they're trying to fool us that this isn't the same cut my mother wore circa 1974!

I know! I heard Stacy from "What Not To Wear" say "am-peer" waist when she was on Oprah. I didn't know what she was talking about at first. It sounded so snootie patootie!
