It's Me or the Dog

My Mom kept telling me about this great dog trainer show she'd been watching.

"You mean Cesar?" I asked - sure that I was right.

"Nope. It's a British lady. The dogs are just awful and the people must all be on the dole, because they never seem to go to work and can all walk the dogs every three hours. And the trainer lady is really strict."

"So, it's not the Dog Whisperer?"

"No. It's a woman. And she's British."

Hmmm, I thought to myself. She can't be as good as Cesar. Or can she?

Well. I finally stumbled upon the show "It's Me or the Dog" on Animal Planet and I am OBSESSED! I love Victoria Stilwell!

I have been recording every episode on our trusty DVR and I have been watching it at every opportunity.

Victoria is fair and consistent, but she is very strict. (And she kind of dresses like a doggie dominatrix, if you ask me. I think it's the knee-hi black boots.)

She illustrates how most of the dogs are just confused by the conflicting messages they are getting from their owners. So the owners all get some instruction on how to properly train and communicate clearly with their dogs and the importance of a schedule and daily walks.

By the end of each show, the dog and the people are much happier and Victoria's work is done. (There is a series where the dog owners are British, which I like better. But there is also an American series, where all the families are American. I'm not as into that one, but it's still pretty enjoyable.)

Victoria is everything I hope we will be when we become dog owners someday. In the meantime, I'll just keep watching her show and try to learn how to be a good pack leader. Woof.
