She's Tight

I've been on a quest lately for cotton or wool tights. As you know, I want to wear skirts and boots this fall and hopefully into winter, but I thought some legwear with a bit more heft would be warmer. After searching around and finding mostly nylon tights, I stumbled upon Hue brand cotton tights at Macy's!

There was a sweet old lady named Helen at the Alderwood Macy's hosiery department that helped me pick out the right size and assured me that I could return them if they didn't work out. I got black cotton control top tights and brown non-control top tights in nylon (because they only had black in the cotton ones). I thought I'd give them both a whirl. I haven't worn tights since about 3rd grade, so I wasn't sure how they'd fit and all.

I tried them on and hot snot! They both fit fine and feel very soft and not too constricting (even the control top ones aren't that tight). I am so excited to wear them next time I go out on the town!

Tights seem to be everywhere this fall, so I'm thinking I might get some of those sweater kind of tights, too.

But what do you think about patterned tights (not fishnet, of course) or colored tights? I almost bought teal/turquoise colored tights. But would that be too middle school and Smurf-like or ok with the right outfit?

Hmmm. I've been wearing tights religiously since 9th grade, and here are my personal rules:

Patterned tights: If it's a subtle pattern, go for it. Tone-on-tone, neutral patterns, that is. Not black and white checkers. Or purple, blue or green patterns... it will look like you have bruised legs from a distance. And lastly, your leg needs to be thin enough that the pattern isn't a completely different pattern above the knee than it is below the knee.

Brightly colored tights: Best left to 12-22 year old girls with super-duper skinny legs.

Yeah, that's kind of what I was thinking about the colored tights. They look neat on models, but I think they might look sort of garish on me.

I actually had these pink and red flower patterned nylons in high school (or were they tights? Not sure, but it seems like they were kind of sheer like stockings). Anyway, one of my teachers saw me in the hall and thought I had been in an accident because it looked to her like my legs were bleeding. Not good! I never wore them again.

So if I buy patterned tights, I will choose them carefully! :-)
