Fall Trends

Fall is an excellent time to shop for clothes and this fall is no different. Three ubiquitous fall trends that re-emerge every fall (and that I'm always excited to embrace) are scarves, skirts with boots and, well, boots in general. (My economic depression has lifted and has been replaced by lust for boots.)

Scarves came on strong in the summer and are still hot (get it - because they keep you warm?) for fall. If you're looking inexpensive scarves, H&M, Forever 21 and Ross are the places to go.

I have been a scarf whore since high school, because they add color/pattern and they keep you toasty in chilly weather! Plus, it probably helped that my Dad was always asking me, "Where's your scarf?" during the winter months. (I got bronchitis twice in high school, but my Dad has always been very concerned about upper respiratory ailments because he has a deviated septum and likes to project that everyone else does, too.) Anyway, it was just easier to put on a scarf, because it kept my Dad happy and, hell, scarves just add flair. (No, not that kind of flair!)

Skirts are great because there is such a variety of options and they always look especially stylish with the right pair of boots.

Skirts are also fun to shop for because, let's face it - skirts are infinitely easier to buy because they just have to fit your waist and be a pleasing length. There is none of this rise/ass/hip dimension ratio horseshit that you face with pants. I have found some nice skirts at the Goodwill and Ross, but there's always the sale rack at the GAP, Banana Republic and local shops like Frock Shop, too.

Now, boots are always a great trend in the fall. Plus, boots are something that I have loved ever since I was a kid. They just seem to fit my foot in a way that shoes don't always manage to do. I've been kind of obsessed with boots lately and got some great Born boots at Nordstrom a couple months ago.

I got them in black and I think I may go back and get them in brown. When you find a good thing, why stop with one color?

So, what are you excited about for fall?

Plus, with boots your socks don't have to match your outfit, or even each other. These facts help me a great deal.

That's so true! I was wearing boots over the weekend with short, white gym socks...and nobody was the wiser! :-)

I bought some dark, chocolate brown suede boots today, but now that I have them home, I realize my entire wardrobe is shades of black, gray and blue. Any advice, other than returning them? Can you wear black tights with chocolate boots? Argh! I'm confused about my neutrals.

I think you can wear black tights with brown boots. I want to see your suede boots! They sound cute!

I actually wore grey and brown the other day and I thought it worked ok. I have a lot of neutrals, too, as you know. I've been thinking of trying to get a little bit more color, but I am just drawn to browns and cremes.
