Deadliest Catch

We went to the Ballard Seafood fest last weekend, which was totally packed with people. After having a snack (I had a blue raspberry shaved ice -- mmmm!) we all took a jaunt down to the water, where some of the "Deadliest Catch" boats were moored.

When we got there, we saw the Sea Star first.

I didn't know this, but the Sea Star is the boat that the cameramen are on and they film the other crab boats for the show when they are out fishing. I never really stopped to think about who was filming the Northwestern, the Cornelia Marie and the other boats. The Sea Star is a very small boat! We were able to get on it and they had a tiny gift shop. You could also take a tour of the other parts of the boat, but we didn't do that. I did buy my Dad a t-shirt, though, and we took some photos.

A couple docks down, Sig Hansen's boat, the Northwestern was moored. We couldn't actually get close to his boat, but I did snap a few pictures of it. It didn't look all that big either, but I was excited to see it, even from a distance! (I took all these pics with my phone, so I couldn't zoom.)

Every time I watch "Deadliest Catch", I am amazed at the storms they endure, the hard work they do, and the long hours they put in. I can't imagine pulling up those heavy crab pots in the wind, rain and ice, with no sleep and not enough snack breaks. I wouldn't last any time at all even just standing inside the boat because I get so seasick. I am impressed every time I watch the show and never hesitate to ask whoever is near whether they could work like that. (Aaron is usually watching it with me and I ask him that pretty much every time we tune in. We wouldn't last a day because we both need about 10 hours of sleep a night.)

It was really cool to see the boats and I keep hoping that someday we'll be in the right place at the right time to run into Sig and his pals. I heard they hang out at the Lockspot in Ballard sometimes. I'll be keeping my eyes peeled.
