Burt's Bees

I recently got a variety of Burt's Bees hand and foot cremes. I thought they'd be handy, since they were all purse size containers, so good for travel near or far.

I tried the peppermint foot lotion, the coconut foot creme and the almond milk beeswax hand creme.

I usually use the medicinal smelling Amlactin lotion that you can buy in a vat at Costco, so I thought a nice smelling foot creme would be a pleasant alternative. First, I tried the Peppermint Foot lotion. It had a creamy consistency and went on nicely. However, the pepermint smell reminded me of Tom's of Maine toothpaste, so that was a little odd. Then a tingly is-this-what-athlete's-foot-feels-like sensation came over my feet. It wasn't like the searing pain I associate with lip plumping glosses, but it wasn't enjoyable. I left my socks on, though, for maximum moisturizing potential. Later in the evening, when I took off my socks, my feet felt a little greasy and the toothpaste smell was all over my socks. Ugh. So, I wouldn't buy that lotion again.

The next evening, I decided to try the Coconut Foot Creme. It was a much thicker Vaseline-like texture than the Peppermint foot lotion and was the color of caramel. It spread over my feet thoroughly, but the smell was overwhelming. It was a mix of Malibu Rum (oh, God, I will never forget the time in 9th grade when drinking that devil's elixir straight seemed like a good idea. As you can imagine, it was NOT a good idea.) and WD40. Don't ask me where the WD40 smell came in, but the scent whisked me right back to my Grandpa's shop where he kept his boat. (And no, he didn't drink Malibu Rum. He was a whiskey man - but he didn't drink at the shop.) So, the Coconut foot creme wasn't a winner either.

Lastly, I tried the Almond Milk Hand Creme. It comes in a glass pot with a tin lid. So it's kind of old-timey and apothocary-like. The smell reminded me of the time in 7th grade when my friend Randy made Mazipan cookies and I ate almost all of them in one afternoon. Mmm. The creme itself is thick like lip balm, kind of more like a cuticle creme than a hand creme. It's a bit greasy, so a little goes a long way. It has really helped smooth out my cuticles and the smell is heavenly. (It does make me want to scarf down almond cookies, though. But thankfully, there aren't any handy at the moment.) Mostly, I just enjoy compulsively putting it on when I am sitting at my desk.

One out of three isn't too bad. So, ah, anyone want some foot lotion?
