You know what my favorite part of this festive time of year is? The after Christmas winter clothing clearance sales! I took today off for precisely this reason.
The best part is that not only does everything have a bunch of markdown price tags and "SALE - HALF OFF" signs all over the place, but you get to shop for yourself again. (Deep sigh of relief.) Let's take a moment and relish that thought. What does that mean to you? It means you can look at that orange wool scarf and not ask yourself, "Would my cousin like that scarf? Is that what she meant when she said 'fun muffler'"? No, sir. You can just think, damn, that is the fugliest thing I've ever seen. Is it for a blind deer hunter? Or you can, say, "That is the sexiest frickin' color of burnt sienna I've seen since I was using Crayolas and I could rock that bad boy like that perky blond model in the Winter J. Crew catalog." You don't have to wonder, because you know what you like. That's the joy of shopping for yourself.
Usually, my Mom and I hit up the Goodwill on the day after Christmas. And this year was no different. I literally got three skirts, three sweaters, three purses, a pair of shoes and a t-shirt for $38 total. Yes, literally. Not figuratively. It was legendary. That's what 50% off everything in the store will do for you. Let me tell you - I'm still coming down off that high.
So, I hope you're be out there shopping for yourselves, too. It's the spirit of the after Christmas sale season. I'll see you at the mall this weekend. (Or downtown, but I won't lie to you...I shop in the suburbs a lot of time. It's true. I try to pass as all urban and shit, but I lived my early years in Lynnwood. You're just lucky I still don't have feathered hair.)
