ClosetMaid: Part Deux

Like most home improvement projects, the closet project was slightly more challenging than I anticipated...

I started out by taking all my clothes and hanging them on my new wooden hangers. Then I moved all my clothes, shoes and purses out of the closet and put them on the bed. After that, I tackled the old rod and shelving. It was all coming out nicely, when I noticed that the walls were white behind the brackets and old shelf! To make matters worse, when we ripped off the old wood supports, the glue that the builders had used actually tore off the top layer of drywall. It was at that moment that I started to freak out a little bit.

The good news was that as a move-in gift, the builders had left us a gift box with a quart of wall paint, trim paint, and a small container of spackle. Sadly, I didn't see the spackle until AFTER we had just gone to buy some at Fred Meyer.

So, I got out my putty knife and got to puttying and painting over the offending white spots.

Then, Aaron spent the next three hours putting together the closet insert structure and connecting it to the walls of the closet. This neccessitated the use of a hammer, screwdriver, cordless drill and a jigsaw. (I hovered around for moral support and to hand Aaron tools.)

We finally got the whole shootin' match installed, but then it was time to go meet our friends for drinkies at Mulleady's. (So, I had to wait to hang everything up until after we got back from the bar. Good times.)

Here's an "after" shot of the newly beautified closet:

Now all I need to do is to add some of the "optional" shelves above the clothing rods and also buy a shoe rack. I see another trip to Lowe's in my near future...

How exciting! I know what you're saying, re: InStyle celebrity closets. There was an issue a few years ago where a celebrity had built-in drawers for her perfectly spaced out jewelry to lay in.

Our house came with a "system" similar to yours, but it wasn't tailored for our needs, so I could see modifying it in the future. By the way, I assume you are showing only half of the closet? Where are your pants/skirts/dresses? And also, where are Aaron's clothes?? : )

Yes, that is only the right half of the closet. The left side has all my pants and tops. I couldn't get a good shot of the whole thing because of the sliding doors.

Aaron keeps his clothes in a box in the car. Ha, just kidding. :-) He has the whole closet in the office. That's the next project!
