We should have done all this celebrating after the elections (who would have thought that Rumsfeld would ever step down?!), but after having dinner and a beer at Feierabend on Saturday, Aaron and I scurried back to the north end and settled in Ballard. We ended up doing a bit o' bar hopping, which I hadn't done in ages. Usually we just land at a certain bar and perch there for the whole evening.First, we went to King's Hardware. I had a Shiner Bock (for a little flavor of Texas) and Aaron broke the mold with a Jack and Coke! (Yuck, I will never like whiskey, bourbon or scotch.) Our table was rickety, though, and I felt like trying someplace new...
So, we scooted down the street to DiVino. It wasn't terribly packed, so we pulled up a white barstool and cozied up to the cocktail menu. I had a couple cosmos and Aaron had something with very pulpy OJ that I didn't like and then a New Old Fashioned, which, AGAIN, has whiskey or bourbon in it. But he liked it and it was his drink, after all.
DiVino does seem like a bar you would find in Belltown. And it is very Barbarella - lots of white and shiny surfaces. But Ballard is allowed to have some sleek and stylish bars, too. Our bartender was very attentive and the drink prices were in the $7-9 range for specialty cocktails. The music was what Aaron deemed "Euro trash", but we both liked it. It reminded me of something I would have heard at a Greek restaurant in Germany.
I think DiVino would be a good place to go for a date night or a girls' night. (And P.S. They had a Lucky magazine in the bathroom for your reading pleasure. I've never seen that before at a bar!)
After DiVino, we capped off the evening at none other than the Tin Hat. Sometimes you just have to get back to the basics. It was PBR for the mister and a crisp vodka tonic for the missus.
After the Hat, we tottered home and ate copius amounts of tortilla chips and Tostito's brand Chili Con Queso out of a jar.
And we may do it all again this weekend - because it's time to celebrate! Power to the Blue States!
