You know how there is a Curves on every corner? They seem to have sprung up all over the place and are now the Starbucks of gyms. I've thought about going to one every time I've driven by on my way home to do something less physically challenging, like watching my "Grey's Anatomy" Season 1 DVD that I got for my birthday. That, however, changed this past weekend. My Mom said that all she wanted for Mother's Day was for me to go to Curves with her. I couldn't say no to a simple request like that, and what with the wedding right around the corner, I figured it would be in my best interest anyway.
Curves is set up so that you can go there three times a week for a half-hour workout at each visit. I thought it would be easy peasy, but it actually kicked my baby-got-back ass.
The machines each target a different part of your body: abs, butt, quads, etc. After each machine, you got to a "resting pad", where you jog in place, twist or whatever else the sign on the pad says. After you go around the circuit twice, you get to do cool down stretches and, if you sweat like me (or "glow" as our trainer called it), you get to swab your forehead with a complimentary towel.
After all was said and done, our trainer went over the pricing and asked if we were interested. My Mom haggled with her and talked her down to a two-for-one joining fee of $75 (on top of that, there is the monthly membership fee of $31). So, it appears that I will be grabbing my Nalgene water bottle and toodling over to Curves on a regular basis, as I will soon be a card carrying member. Since it's only an hour and a half per week total, that should leave me lots of time to keep up with what's going on at Seattle Grace Hospital.
