Deutsche Filme

I took a German film class in college (Yes, we watched movies and got credit for it. It's right up there in difficulty level with Wine Appreciation and Music Appreciation. Aaron took the former, I took the latter - both 104 and 105.) Anyhoo, the class that I took focused on the works of director Rainer Werner Fassbinder. The first film that we watched was "Goetter der Pest" (Gods of the Plague). It was one of his earlier films. The lighting was dim and it was shot in black and white. But it was filmed in 1969, and let me tell you, the characters all look very hip and brooding.

The rest of the movies we saw were equally confusing and strange like only foreign films can be. Here are the other movies we saw that quarter:

1. Ali-Fear Eats the Soul (1974) Angst essen Seele auf
2. The Marriage of Maria Braun (1979) Ehe der Maria Braun, Die
3. Veronika Voss (1982) Sehnsucht der Veronika Voss, Die
4. Fox and His Friends - aka "Fist-Right of Freedom" (1975) Faustrecht der Freiheit

If you're in the mood for some intellectual entertainment and you've already seen all the potential Oscar nominated films (Go, overachiever!), try a couple of these movies (visit Scarecrow if you're in Seattle) and impress your film snob friends.
