Today, I heard one of the greetings that annoys me most: "Hey, Trouble". This is usually said by someone who is not cool and has never been cool, but for some reason, thinks they are cool. I had a boss for a while who said "Hey, Trouble" to everyone and it bothered me so much that I had to quit. (Ok, it was a crap job in the first place, but who wants to feel like "The Office" was modeled after their workplace?)Another irritating thing that people say that annoys the pants off me is "Are we having fun yet?" This is usually said by someone who never has fun and has no sense of humor while we're doing something that is not remotely fun. I worked with a woman at Kmart who said this when we were unloading freight for the domestics (that's towels and comforters to you and me) department. (Yes, I worked at Kmart. I lived in Oak Harbor in high school, so there weren't many job prospects. Throw me a bone.)
So, I got to thinking, do I repeat annoying phrases over and over? Am I unfunny and uncool? I still say, "You go, girl" sometimes, like it's 1991 and "In Living Color" isn't a distant memory. Ouch. I also still say "Hello!", as in "Hello, she was wearing stirrup pants!" Yipes. I've been known to ask, "How you doin'?", in a fake Italian/New York accent, like "Friends" is still on primetime and "Joey" never happened. Wow, I'm a big dork! I need a new catch phrase, pronto!
