Surprise!

Saturday night, a friend of mine and I threw a surprsie party for another friend's 30th birthday. I was in charge of cupcakes, candles and streamers. The party was at the Reading Gaol in the back room of the bar.

We arrived early to put up streamers, balloons and a "Happy Birthday" sign to make the place look festive. I arranged the cupcakes on a fancy cupcake rack. I also came clean about whey two of the cupcakes were unfrosted - because some people don't like frosting...why else? (Ok, you got me. I couldn't help myself and ate half the container of Pilsbury Vanilla frosting. It's like meth, man. I just can't help myself.)

People started showing up at the prescribed time of 8:30pm. There was anticipation in the air as we waited for the birthday girl to arrive with her boyfriend. We got the call that they were coming, so we lit the candles and waited. And waited. And blew out the candles before they became a mess of melted wax. A false alarm. Somebody went to do a recon mission to see if they were in the main part of the bar...she rushed back and said they were coming! We turned off the lights, re-lit the candles and they came in. "Surprise!!!"

Our friend was thoroughly surprised and touched! She opened presents and Aaron got the iPod to play through the big tv in the back room by hooking up a small video game controller thing. (I'm not sure how that worked, but I was glad to have tunes.)

We had cupcakes, the birthday girl opened presents and cards and we all had a few drinkies. I love surprise parties!
