Wedding Venue

I'm sure you're all waiting with baited breath to hear how the wedding planning is coming along.

Well, since I have you as a captive audience, I will give you an update.

We went to look at a possible wedding venue on Sunday. My Mom came with us for moral support. First, we checked out the Skansonia. The Skansonia is a permanently moored ferry on Lake Union and I have talked to a couple friends that have attended weddings there. When we got there, I noticed that it is moored near a rather industrial part of Lake Union. There are a few working boats located next to the Skansonia and you have to walk down a long dock to get to the ferry.

From the outside, the ferry looks like it could use a fresh coat of paint. Plus, I was disappointed to notice that it's up on stilts and not actually in the water.

The inside is very beautiful and has wood floors and lots of antique furniture. The area where they hold ceremony is either outside on the deck of the boat or inside by the fireplace. I don't think that we would get much good out of the outside area, since the wedding will be in September or October. After a brief discussion, we decided against it as a contender.

Next, we are going to the Woodland Park Zoo to check out their rose garden and the Butterflies and Blooms exhibit, which can also be used as a wedding ceremony spot. If we have time this weekend, we might look at the Chinese Room at the Smith Tower. My Dad used to work in the Smith Tower and I always enjoyed riding the elevator to his office. The elevator has a real live elevator operator and it's very old school.

I'll keep you posted on new developments...unless Aaron decides it would better to elope.

Reason #2 Why We Shouldn't Book the Skansonia: Too easy to make "SKANKsonia" joke.
