Aaron and I went to the Oregon Coast over the weekend! Some friends of ours have a cabin down there and generously offered to let us stay in it. So we took them up on it!
We drove down on Friday and arrived pretty late in the evening, so it was pitch dark. We couldn't see the ocean, but we could hear the crashing waves and smell the salty air. I couldn't wait to get up the next day and go down to the beach!
When we woke up Saturday morning, we went up to the kitchen to whip up some breakfast. When we came up the stairs and into the living room, we were met with the most gorgeous view of the ocean waves!!
So we ate breakfast quickly, got dressed and scampered down to the beach like raccoons.
The beach was gorgeous!
Aaron and I both had our cameras and I started snapping pictures, while directing Aaron to take pictures of me. "Take one here by this drift wood!" "Take one of me running by the waves and then I'll look over at you!"
"Ok, now let's take one of us together and I'll pretend to be kissing you!" I do this to whomever I am with until they want to strangle me - usually it's Aaron, but I pushed my Mom and my brother over the edge recently, too. But, meh. I say it's part of my charm.
Anyway, I was so excited to get down to the water that I didn't put on any make-up or do anything to my hair. I just decided to go for that "natural look". Well kids, there's the natural look of light make-up with tinted moisturizer, loose powder, concealer, clear gloss, some volumizing mascara, peachy blush, and a bit of champagne colored eyeshadow over some nude eye base with just a skoosh of smudgy brown liner. Then you've got the hair that sports "beachy" waves (after a lengthy flat-iron sesh complete with oils and pomades to combat the humidity, while allowing for movement so you don't end up with "wings" when the ocean breezes tousle your "just rolled out of bed" looking hair). So, yeah, there's that - and THEN there's the purple vein eyelids, bags under the eyes complete with ruddy complexion and rounded out by puffy hair smashed down with a woolen hat. I went for the latter, and let me tell you...ALL those pictures got deleted (except for the ones taken from a great distance). Thank God for digital cameras.
After frolicking on the beach, we headed back up the path to the cabin. There were some really pretty flowers along the path.
Then we went into town for some lunch. We stopped into a pub/bar for a hamburger. It was lovely until a group of older men settled in for the football game. They exclaimed with passion every time somebody did something wrong, in hopes that if they yelled loud enough, the tiny tight end in the tv might hear them? And every few seconds, one of them would say, "Dude, he totally Hansel-ed it!" Aaron thought that they had a friend with the last name "Hansel" that had previously committed some sort of faux-pas, and now it was their inside joke. Ah-ha. But, distractions aside, my hamburger was delish and Aaron enjoyed his fish burger, too.
After lunch, we toodled around, picked up some groceries and went back to the house to relax. And relax we did. I took a nap while Aaron fussed with his magical iPhone apps. Then it was time for me to freshen up (read: apply every cream, powder, gloss and serum that I own) and then head back to the beach for a walk in the sand (and more pictures). We didn't see any sand dollars, but I did see a razor clam.
Later in the evening, we had dinner and a few tasty beverages.
The next morning, we went to Wanda's cafe for breakfast.
Mmmm! The food was great and the decor was vintage quirky.
Loved it!
After tidying up, we headed out to continue our adventures in Portland. (More on that later.)
We had a great time and really enjoyed our stay at the cabin!
