Dental Travails

As I was eating a healthy snack of almonds on Friday, I felt an odd sensation and realized that I had chipped my front right tooth. The horror! My dentist's office is closed on Fridays, so I had to wait the whole weekend and then call them on Monday to schedule an appointment.

The chip was small, but very noticeable to me and, to make matters worse, I could feel the rough spot on my tooth with my tongue. And much like with a loose tooth, it's hard to leave stuff like alone.

So, I was relieved to get to my dentist's office yesterday afternoon to get things sorted. I had chipped a front tooth before, and they were able to sand it off, so I was hoping this situation would be similar...

After an assessment of my tooth, my dentist decided the chipped area would need to be filled. I thought briefly of asking for a set of "grillz" ala Flava Flav, but thought better of it, since my dentist was holding a scary looking tooth sander.

The filling procedure only took about thirty minutes! So my tooth is all beter now and they didn't even have to use novacaine! They just spackled my front tooth with composite, dried it and did a bit of sanding to smooth it out. (Just like drywall!) And away I went. I just can't have berries or red wine for 24 hours, but they didn't say anything about chocolate cake!

So, when I got home, I cut myself a big hunk of chocolate birthday cake and bit into it with my new toof. A hoffy ending, indeed.

It's a shame you didn't get a removable grill for special occasions: weddings, high school reunion, big-pimpin'parties.

Hmmm, that's a good idea! I wonder if my dental insurance would cover a removeable grill? Must look into that...
