If You Keep Making That Face, It Will Freeze That Way

I have been reading a book called "Forget the Facelift: Dr. Day Turns Back the Clock with a Revolutionary Program for Ageless Skin" by Dr. Doris Day. (Her name is Doris Day, what are the odds?) It's got all the tips and beauty regimes that you would expect...washing, exfoliating, moisturizing, mud masking and the like.

But one part stood out for me. She suggests that you look in a mirror and examine your face. She states that most people look placidly into the mirror and don't smile or frown or anything. She says you should look into the mirror and try to imitate your reaction to different things people might say and note the expressions that you make and how they wrinkle up your face. Once you know what triggers these wrinkle causing expressions, you can try to modify them and use your voice more to convey surprise, compassion or excitement, instead of wrinkling up your face and causing unsightly lines.

I thought this sounded hokey, but I tried it. (I currently have fine lines that run horizontally on either side of my forehead, right above my eyebrows). I made a face like I would to express an, "Oh, really? I'm listening attentively and agreeing with you," type of look. My eyebrows shot up and the tiny wrinkles became big, deep wrinkles! Egad! Must alter that look for sure.

She says that practicing making less wrinkle inducing facial expressions can be as good as a shot of Botox, which just freezes the muscles in your face anyway.

Don't worry, though, I'm not going to stop smiling or anything. But that high eyebrow, forehead scrunching look is going bye-bye.
