Take It Back

I am a huge supporter of returning things to the store that do not meet your satisfaction. I always return clothes and shoes that I decide I don't like or that don't fit properly once I get them home. I also firmly believe in returning make-up that doesn't work out. (Sephora and Nordstrom are just great about returned make-up. They don't even make you feel guilty.)

But the thing that I had never returned before was food. Oh sure, I have sent back food to the kitchen at restaurants (in a polite fashion, don't worry), but I had never returned food to the grocery store...until the other day.

I bought some bread at Safeway over the weekend. It was a loaf of Farmstyle white bread from their bakery. (I like it because it makes great toast.) But when I got a few slices into the loaf, I noticed that the bread was not bread, but raw dough in the middle! I vacillated for a moment about what to do, and then decided that I wanted my $2.29 back.

So I trucked across the street and pleasantly informed the checker that my bread wasn't baked all the way through. (I was nice, though. I may return things, but I try not to be bitchy about it.) She said, "Well, these things happen," and she gave me my money back. I felt rather triumphant as I tucked the cash in my wallet.

So, tell me, would you return something to a grocery store?

i return things all the time. i'm not afraid to return meat that i notice looks fine on the outside but once you get it open it smells kind of funny.
i'm more than willing to return food that i got because i didn't remember that i already had enough at home.
and i'm definitely more than willing to return things that i find are ill-fitting, taste gross, or just didn't get my fancy once i got home. and sometimes...when i get home i realize wow...i really didn't need this. so back to the store i go.
doughy bread...ewwwwww

I agree! The only place that I haven't returned stuff is to the Goodwill. I usually just donate the stuff back to them if it doesn't work out.
