More New Construction?

The other night, Aaron and I decided to make a quick stop by Blockbuster to rent a movie since we had both been struck down by the horrible flu going around. (We're both much better now, thank you for asking.)

On the way in, we saw a notice of proposed land use action sign. What, pray tell, could they be doing? We asked the checker at Blockbuster, but she had no idea. She said managment never tells her anything.

Well, after a little sleuthing, I found an easy-to-read report on the City of Seattle Department of Planning and Development website. (It seems that there are two projects, so be sure to read both the "parent" and the "child".) And did you catch the part about McDonald's being demolished? Granted, I don't go to Mickey D's all that often, but what will I do when I need an Egg McMuffin and a hash brown? The good news is that according the map below, both Blockbuster and Bartell's are going to be renovated and not torn down.
It appears that the new area is going to be called the Greenwood Town Center (It is currently the Greenwood Shopping Center). I guess adding the "Town" part makes it sound classier, like the Redmond Town Center. If only they'd spelled it "Centre" and added an "e" to the end of town. Then it would be even more upscale. (They could even add a "Ye Olde" to the beginning, so it's "Ye Olde Greenwood Towne Centre"...but then they'd have to sell magick cards and tiny Warhammer figures that you hand paint and there's already a nerdy game shop on Greenwood.)

At any rate, I will be curious to see this construction unfold. And I will, of course, keep you posted of developments as they transpire.
