PDX, Baby

Aaron and I are going to the "City of Roses" over the long weekend. (That's Portland to you and me.) I recently stumbled upon some old friends on myspace, and I found out that they live in the fair city of Portland. We messaged, we emailed and we finally talked on...the phone! (I hardly ever talk on the phone these days, although you wouldn't know it by the amount of minutes I rack up with quick, "I'm running a little late" calls.) We decided it would be great to get together, and thanks to the commemoration of some dead presidents, this weekend was an obvious pick.

We'll be staying in the newly opened Ace Hotel. Can't wait to check that out. Their website says they are "how you want to travel - simple, stylish, and not too expensive." That's me in a nutshell. (But they left out the part about being prone to puns and obsessed with home organizaton.) They add that they provide all these comforts "without the soul-killing blandness of a faceless chain." No soul killing blandness for us, no sirree.

I'm not sure which restaurants and bars we'll be hitting up, but I said we'd like to have a casual dinner, go to a swanky bar and a dive bar and then go to a good breakfast place on Sunday. So it will be up to my long lost pals to guide us around to all the hot spots.

I'll give you a full report when we get back!

Wow, you weren't kidding when you wrote the Portland Ace Hotel just opened. Their website says it opened on Feb 14? You'll have to let us know if the rumors from the Seattle Ace are true... did they leave you the Kama Sutra book and a bowl of condoms next to the bed?

Yeah, they did just open on the 14th - so that was timely! Sadly, our room was not equipped with condoms or a Kama Sutra book - so maybe that is just for Seattle? We just had your run-of-the-mill towels and complimentary shampoo...
