There are typical announcements, like the location and time of the next condo association meeting or the fact that we can expect to see window washers on a certain date. Then there are various other postings, like a flyer that one homeowner posted about how to donate food to the charity she volunteers for. People have posted ads about furniture they are selling and also for community events, like ArtUp Greenwood. I always look forward to seeing them because it makes it a little less uncomfortable to ride in the elevator with others when you can focus your attention on something to read.
Most recently, however, someone posted a picture of their baby and encouraged everyone in the building to vote for said baby for a competition called the "Cutest Baby in Seattle", which is promoted by a local radio station. I read it and was slightly annoyed. Why? I don't know exactly. People post all kinds of stuff, but this somehow seemed selfish to make people read something as a captive audience that was really for their personal gain. I don't know what the prize was, but I have a cold, black heart when it comes to cutesy wootsy contests like that. I'm just not a baby person. But, I didn't mess with the flyer. I just tried not to read it the next time I got in the elevator. (Which was impossible. It's like trying not to read the announcement on the bus about the Commuter of the Quarter for thousandth time. You just can't help yourself.)
So, today, when I opened my email and saw an email titled "Community Frustration" and sent to everyone in the building, I wondered, what the hell is that? I thought maybe it was someone upset about the siding issues or some other dig against the HOA Board's performance (Those people have a thankless job. I'm glad I never volunteered to be that whipping boy.) Well. It was from the person with the baby competition flyer. Apparently, someone tore the flyer down less than 24 hours after it was put up. Hmmm, who would do such a thing? I guess I am not the only one that was annoyed. I haven't seen any replies to the email. I did forward it to Aaron so that he could stay abreast of community comings and goings.
Next time I am in the elevator, I will check to see if it gets re-posted. (It hasn't resurfaced so far.)
In the meantime, maybe I should enter a contest for Seattle's Best Wife. Or better yet, enter Aaron and myself into a Wife Carrying competition! The winner of this competition wins his wife's weight in beer. Maybe other people in our building would like to participate in a competition such as this, as well. Perhaps I will post a notice in the elevator.
