Threaded

I have been an avid brow waxing enthusiast for about four years (or maybe longer - it's hard to keep track). I love not having to pluck and a well-shaped brow is such a nice frame for the face.

However, lately my skin has become even more sensitive than usual. Could it be the Retin-A? (Probably - you're not supposed to wax skin treated with Retin-A. I know.) Could it be the relentless exfoliating? Could it be the Proactiv? Who can be sure? (Ok, I'd wager that all three are contributing factors.) What I am sure of is that my last couple brow waxes have ended in tragedy. In exchange for a lovely arch, I gave up the top few layers or skin in a couple small spots near my brow area. Since scabs are never sexy, I was in a panic. What to do?

I decided to explore other options. I had heard of threading and sugaring as other hair removal solutions, but where to go? I checked on Yelp and found some places in Ballard and Queen Anne, and then I saw Studio JYC in Shoreline. Hmmm. The reviews on Yelp were all glowing, so I made an appointment.

Studio JYC is one woman named Jane. Her studio is a room in Saely Beauty Salon on Aurora by McDonald's and a Mexican grocery store.

I was a little apprehensive because I wasn't sure what to expect, but Jane made me feel very comfortable. As I walked in, she had a large chair for me to recline in. (I think it might have even been heated. Sweet!)

She was very no nonsense and talked to me about what she was going to do and measured my eyebrows first to figure out the symmetry of my face and what shape would be most flattering for me. Then, she put on some latex gloves, showed me the thread, told me it would feel like rubberband snaps and got to work. It didn't hurt that much and she was done in a couple minutes.

My brows look great and no skin was pulled off! It was amazing and affordable.

Jane only takes cash or check and I didn't have either, so she said I could mail a check to her! Wow! I did, of course, but I will remember to bring cash next time. I definitely plan to go back.

If you are looking for something less irritating to your skin than waxing and you want to tame your Chewbacca brows - go see Jane. You won't be sorry!
