After a day of cleaning the house and grocery shopping on Sunday, I felt it was time for a treat. The Totem House has quite an excellent milkshake, so Aaron and I hopped in the car and zoomed down to Ballard. We made a pit stop at MooBerry so that Aaron could get a strawberry banana smoothie (with a protein boost).
The Totem House's sign declares that God should bless the world.
If that means delicious strawberry milkshakes for everyone, then that would be a good start.
After getting our respective beverages, we toodled across to the Ballard Locks. I always forget how beautiful the botanical gardens are down there. Just gorgeous.
It's always neat to see the locks, too.
I've never been through the Ballard Locks on a boat, but it seems like it would be weird to be on your Bayliner and have a bunch of commoners staring at you from the edge of the locks, envious of your pleasure craft. I know I'm pretty jealous when I'm standing there behind the gates, gazing at the boat people, with their shiny cases of Corona and windblown hair.
We watched the boats for about a half hour, agreed we'd both like a vintage Chris Craft boat someday, and wandered back through the botanical gardens. On the way through the gardens, we saw two yellow and black butterflies flitting by together, kind of like they were dancing or fighting. I pointed them out to Aaron. He said,"I think they're trying to mate. Be careful they don't mate all over you." Mmmm, nature.
So, the locks are pretty cool. It's fun to see the boats, the gardens and be near water, and it's free and close-by (if you live in Greenwood or the surrounding area). Quite a hard combo to beat - especially on a sunny day.
