Staycation - (Don't) Have to get away

I read about an interesting trend a while ago in the Seattle Times. It discussed how to have a vacation without spending a ton of money on travel, accommodation or pesky 3 oz containers to take on the plane. Is it camping? A trip to a nearby town? No, my friends, it's a "Staycation".

So, you stay at home, do things around town, like go out to dinner or whatever, and basically relax a lot. Instead of just calling it slacking and being a lazy ass, someone coined the witty term, "Staycation". I love resting and doing things that don't require flying or packing a suitcase, so I say, "Sign me up!"

Aaron and I had a bit of a staycation over the Independence Day long weekend. We did a little shopping at U Village and Red Light, then went to the Tin Hat for a drinkie. We took some pictures of the Lake Union fireworks display that we can see from our deck (it's a bit far away, but it works for me)

and we went out for pizza at Madame K's. There was even time for me to make a vision board (everybody loves a collage!) and put some summer outfits together and take pictures of them so that I have something to wear when I'm running late (which is always.)

So, next time you don't have plans to go out of town for a holiday or you want to use up your paid time off at work but don't have enough money saved up to stay at a Sandals resort in Jamaica, don't just say, "Uh, yeah, we don't have any plans. Flying is a pain. I hate hotel pillows. I spent my stimulus check on a new cell phone and I'm not even sure what other random crap I bought. So, yeah, we're going to stay home and watch the 'Deadliest Catch' marathon on Discovery or something." Stop right there. Jusy say, "I'm staycation-ing, ya'll."
