Lash Blast

I got a tube of Cover Girl Lash Blast for free at Ulta when I bought some Olay Regenerist eye lifting serum a couple weeks ago. I had been curious to try out the Lash Blast after seeing commercials on tv where Drew Barrymore touts the lengthening and volumizing properties that it offers.

I had read a variety of reviews online and some were not very favorable, so I was hesitant about trying it. But, free is free. (Although freedom isn't free, according to those witty bumper stickers.)

The tube is bright orange and has a holographic silver sticker around the middle. The wand is that rubber style and not a normal brush. The bristles are orange, but turn black as soon as you dunk the wand in the mascara.

The wand feels kind of plastic-y and chunky in your hand. The brush is also pretty big compared to your average mascara brush area. When I first applied it, I didn't tissue off the brush, but just went at it and applied it straight out of the tube. It went on smoothly with no clumps. I put on two coats and it gave good coverage and made my lashes stand out without looking cakey. I really like the rubber brush. It lifts and separates and doesn't glob on the mascara like the traditional brushes sometimes can.

I have monitored Lash Blast's performance over the past few days. The day I applied two coats, it didn't crack off into my eyes or bleed into my lashline. However, the next day, I got greedy and applied 3-4 coats. Then I noticed a few fine black specks under my eyes. So, sticking with two coats is advisable.

I was really hesitant about making a final decision about the Lash Blast, but I've been using it for a few weeks now and keep reaching for it every morning. I think it's a good choice for a drugstore mascara. (And - good news - I've gotten pretty nimble with the chunky brush, if I do say so myself.)
