As I passed by the Greenwood Sip n' Ship today, I saw a sign in the window of one of the other two vacant retail spaces next door.
Wait - did I read that right? A BREWERY? Hot damn! Curious and excited at the prospect of a brewpub within steps from my front door, I raced home to look up Naked City on the internets.
I couldn't find anything at first, but then Aaron did a bit o' searching and found this homebrew forum that mentioned Naked City. From there, we were linked to Naked City's actual site.
Aaron and I walked back by the building
and looked in the windows to see exactly where they're at in the process of opening. It looks like they have a lot of finish work to do because there isn't even any drywall up yet. But all in good time. The space they will inhabit is two doors down from the Sip n' Ship,
which is the largest of the three spaces, so it looks like they might have room to brew onsite.
I welcome any independently owned pub to the 'hood. We need a place that doesn't have karaoke every damn day and that we might go for a quiet evening drink or dinner. I am optimistic that Naked City will be that place for us. (Maybe they'll even have PBR as a guest tap?)
So, even though we lost the Pig n' Whistle, it looks like we won't have long to wait for a new drinking establishment to open up. At least, I hope it won't be long!
