I walked by the Pig n' Whistle the other day and noticed something was amiss.
It was the middle of the afternoon, but almost all the blinds were closed and the windows were dark. I was pretty sure they had always been open Monday through Sunday, so I crossed the street to investigate. Upon closer inspection, I saw this notice in each window:
Wha'? I wondered what could have happened. They never had a farewell sign that they were closing and I never read anything anywhere that they'd be leaving the neighborhood. The really weird thing is that when I peered in the window, I saw all the tables, chairs and place settings set up just like normal. It looked like the servers could just walk in and start serving. So whatever happened must have been sudden or unexpected. A bankruptcy? An illness in the family? Maybe one of the owners died in a car accident? I will probably never know.
I am sad that the Pig n' Whistle is gone. Aaron and I went there a few times for dinner and they had a really good hamburger (Aaron usually got the fish burrito). It was nice because we could walk there and I liked the big windows that looked out onto Greenwood.
However, on the downside, though they served beer, they didn't have the most excellent bar atmosphere - it had more of a restaurant feel (there were often children there during dinnertime). So maybe someone new will swoop in and make it into a cool bar that serves "small plates" or similar? I've got my fingers crossed.

Seems like you aren't the only Greenwoodie (I just made that up!) that is confused by the sudden closure:

Interesting - sounds like everyone else is just as surprised as I am!
