Rockin' and Rollin'

In the midst of my T3 trials, I stumbled upon an older hairstyling tool at my Mom's house. What was it you ask? A curling iron? A crimper? A box of Ogilvie home perm? No, my friends, it was a box of velcro rollers.

I've had mixed results with rollers in the past. I once used those small guage pink plastic rollers and when I took them out and looked in the mirror, I had Little Orphan Annie staring back at me. (I wore them all night, which was obviously too long. Not to mention, super uncomfortable.)

However, the velcro rollers are a variety of sizes from small to almost the size of a beer can. (My Mom even said that when she lived in Mexico in the 60s, they set her hair with beer on actual beer cans! I'll have to try that. Beer for me...beer for my hair. Repeat.) So, since trying the larger size rollers and just leaving them on while I eat my breakfast, I've been ending up with volume and a slight bend in my hair without freakishly tight curls or ringlets.

Plus, I feel like a supermodel when I wear the velcro rollers - like I should be lounging around sipping Moet with a straw out of a single serving bottle and smoking a Galoise cigarette, while looking bored, yet complicated and beautiful. Uh, but that's just how I feel. What I actually look like is a housewife in a trailer drinking Bud light out of a tall boy can (without a straw, mind you) and smoking a bare-ass Camel. But, whatever.

In the end, the rollers are fun to use, smooth the cuticle of my hair without frying it, and are also better for the environment because they don't use any electricity. And free is much better than shelling out 200 big ones for a hairdryer, eh?

Get a photo of you in those rollers and I have one of you in a shower cap to match...

My mom said they put orange juice cans in their hair as rollers when she was a young'un. I don't think they actually used the orange juice to set it though. Beer sounds much more worthwhile.

OMG, you have to send me that pic of me in a shower cap! So I can destroy it! :-) Ha ha, but seriously, I was actually thinking of doing a funny picture of me in rollers... so maybe I will have a "Rollers Part Two" post - stay tuned!

hehe-- you are the only person i know who can wake up in the morning, set your hair in rollers, have breakfast and then make it to work--on time.
i am lucky to shower, blow dry and brush on some mascara- and i am ALWAYS 15-30 minutes "late" (-er than everyone else.
