I have always been a fan of Stila's eyeshadow, so when I decided I needed a break from brown, Stila was the first line I checked out. I was looking for a matte grey, but stumbled across this slightly shimmery warm taupe-y grey shade called Diamond Lil. I bought it without even trying it on. That's how much faith I have in Stila (and, well, I knew I could return it to Sephora...)
When I got home, I swept it on for a wash of color and it was exactly what I was looking for! It's easy to blend for a smokey look, but you can also wet your angled brush and use it as liner for bolder color, which makes it more of dark steel grey (or "shimmering metallic platinum", as it's drescribed on Sephora's website). A really sweet Stila make-up girl taught me the wet liner trick at the Stila counter at Nordstrom and explained that all Stila shadows are for wet/dry use. (Through experimentation, I found that you can use this technique with pretty much any brand of eyeshadow, but it's a good one to know.)
If you're looking for a versatile color and you're tired of brown and black, Diamond Lil might be your new favorite eyeshadow, too.
