Do you remember that song from the 90s called "I Got the Power"? I think it was by Snap, whoever they were. Anyway, it's stuck in my head now. Why? Because we lost our power last night. So, ah, we didn't have the power.
When I drove into the parking garage after work yesterday, I noticed that some of the lights were out. Odd. Then, the elevator wouldn't come. Hmmm. A couple of my neighbors drove in right at that moment and said there were power outages here and there on our street. I did a silent prayer that the power was on in our unit as I walked up the stairs with our neighbor who lives in the unit to our left. For some reason, our whole building was not out - just certain floors. And praise the lord - we had power!
Unfortuneately, though, we didn't have cable. Most of the channels were snowy and some were just completely black. Soooo, I decided to dink around on the internet. Not so fast, quick draw! Because we have cable internet, that wasn't working either.
I decided to just lie around on the guest bed (and whine - I know... so charming) in the office while Aaron played video games.
Then - whammo! We totally lost power. It was pitch dark. Kudos to Aaron because he bought two wind up flashlights a while ago and they worked great. However, since it was so dark and there was nothing to do, we decided to just go to bed. It was 8:30pm. I am very well rested today.
The power came on at about midnight or so, because my clock radio was on when I woke up to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night. So a big thank you to all the linemen (that's who fixes power issues, right?) who worked in the rain and darkness last night to restore our power! I was able to blowdry my hair today and have a hot cup of coffee before I left for work and I am very, very grateful.
