Fit n' Fresh n' Crappy

I have a dear love for Tupperware type products. I am big on packing my lunch, so I have a variety of Rubbermaid, Pyrex and other random storage containers. When I saw an blip about Fit N Fresh containers online a while ago, I thought - bingo! Those are for me.

So, when I was at Linens n' Things, I went to look at the kitchen department. (You never know what you'll find that you never knew you needed in the kitchen area - ramekins, silicon bakeware, pastry mats - you name it.) I saw a small display for Fit N Fresh containers and snapped up a set of the Small Portion Chill Containers.

I raced home, rinsed them out and proceeded to fill the containers with cottage cheese, grapes and other fresh snacks. Then, I threw the ice packs in the freezer and went to watch tv. (When will the writers' strike end? I had to watch "The Biggest Loser" because there was nothing else. Needless to say, I felt like the biggest loser myself.)

The next morning, I took out the ice things and tried to pry the lid off the container so that I could snap the ice pack on for full chilling potential. I noticed some problems right off the bat. The lids don't want to come off. I had to really grip those liittle f*ckers to remove them. Next, when I tried to attach the ice ring to the lid, one of the prongs snapped off and flew across the counter. I decided to try another one, and actually got it to attach properly.

Then, I skipped off to work with a bag full of snacks and when 10am rolled around, I opened up my container of cottage cheese. Was it chilled? No. It was warmish and kind of gross. And, even grosser, since the ice ring is on the inside of the lid, thus facing the food in the container, it gets covered with whatever you're eating. If it's grapes or celery, that's no problem. But it's kind of yucky when it's covered with yogurt or cottage cheese. Ick.

So, the verdict? The Fit N Fresh is going back to Linens n' Things. I'm not impressed n' stuff.
