Neon Lights

When our friend Jim was here doing his artist residency in Port Townsend, he had this neon sign made to include in his art installation. Since he couldn't take it back to London with him, he asked us to hang onto it for the time being.

It is about six feet long, so I was afraid it would be too big to fit in the office. Thankfully, once we moved the CD racks over a bit and relocated a lamp, we were able to center the neon sign over the record shelves.

I quite like it! It adds some artistic flair to the office area and it gives off good light to boot. And the coolest thing? The writing on the sign is written backwards, but you can see what it says frontways because it reflects on the computer monitor. I thought I'd be crafty and do an image search for "black screen", so I could photograph it without any interferance. I found the "black screen of death" on Wikipedia and enlarged the image, then took the photo.

I told Aaron of my crafty plan and he said, "You could have just turned off the monitor." Well played, Aaron. Touche.

Any way you slice it, though, it's a pretty cool piece. Jim got the idea for the text from this song, "Don't Let Me Die Nervous". This exhibit will be on view for an undetermined amount of time in The Office Gallery (aka, our spare bedroom), so come and see it while you can!
