I started out with Philosophy The Supernatural airbrush foundation in Natural.
I bought it at Sephora and couldn't wait to get home and try it. Once home, I smacked the container against my hand to start the flow of powder. I rubbed it all over my face and didn't see much coverage going on. I rubbed it some more. I decided I didn't like the shitty sponge applicator and opened the pot to access the powder and apply it with a brush. It was ok, but not a whole lot different than Bare Minerals, except that it's $35 instead of $25. Screw that, right? So back it went. (To a rather surly Sephora sales associate, I might add.)Next, I tried MAC Studio Fix powder plus foundation.
It comes in a compact, like pressed face powder, but the make-up girl at the MAC counter recommended that I apply it with a brush and not the tiny sponge that it comes with. Ok, no problemo. She went on the add that it's "buildable coverage", which seems to be a buzzword in the land of make-up these days. It went on nicely and a offered a matte finish. I thought it looked a weensy bit pancake-y, but figured that it was just heavier than I am used to, so I brushed some more on and promptly scuttled off to a friend's holiday party. At the party, drinks were had, sweets were eaten and witty reparte was exchanged. When it was time to go, I hugged one of the hosts goodbye and to my horror, I noticed a smidge of powder on his jacket. Egad! Needless to say, the MAC Studio Fix went back the next day. (And the salesperson at the MAC counter at Nordstrom was polite and did not give me any crap about returning make-up.)
So, after those two mishaps, I decided that I will stay true to the Bare Minerals foundation that I have been using.
It's easy to put on and it doesn't rub off on people and a container lasts quite a while. (Although, I might try the next shade lighter. The winter months have eroded any bit of color that I had in my face. I have gone from fair to the fairest one of all, and not in a fairytale sense.)

This is good to know! I'm still debating trying the Minerals line, but it's an investment just to try it out... glad to hear it's better than your new trials!
If you ask for a sample at Sephora, they'll give you enough for about 3-4 applications. I just got one for the Fair color of Bare Minerals foundation. It's much easier than buying and returning! I wish I'd thought of that before when I bought the Philosophy foundation!
