Etsy

Have you ever taken a moment to tool around Etsy? I hadn't until recently. It was one of those things that I had heard about, but hadn't really taken the time to do a search for anything in particular. That all changed over Christmas, when I was looking for a squirrel/chipmunk themed gift for a friend. I did a search for "squirrel necklaces" and then "squirrel accessories". Jackpot! There were tons of cool items, all at different price ranges. There were some especially neat necklace charms (or "enhancers" as they say on QVC) for about $8. What a freakin' steal! Or how about a reversible squirrel necklace?

Now, did I actually purchase anything? No. Time got away from me and I ended up getting that friend a bottle of top shelf vodka a small stuffed animal squirrel from Gifted in Ballard (great store for gifts, btw, as the name might indicate). BUT, I do plan to go back and buy some trinkets for myself and do some "research" for future gifts. It's all about planning ahead, really.

So, if you've got a hankering for some hand-made gifty type items for yourself or others and you don't want to leave the comfort of your house (and you don't need the gift item TODAY, like I did), then give Etsy a whirl. Or if you already have, what did you get? Do tell!

The Hub bought me my last birthday gift from Etsy! It was a giclee print of birds on a wire, then we framed it after it came. Unfortunately, he had a bad experience getting it here on time, as the artist was buying her first home and was a bit flaky. It came two weeks AFTER by birthday. When it did finally arrive, she included a hip little button of a kitty (which I put on Leo's collar for awhile) and a 30% off your next order coupon which I haven't used yet.

A couple months later, I bought a block print with hooks on it that can be used for hanging necklaces, but I hung it in our guest bedroom and hang spare housekeys on it for guests.

You can get sucked into Etsy for hours! I stopped going to it for awhile because I was about to spend a bunch of money on tote bags I simply don't need. (Speaking of, I just picked up my new Laura Bee clutch tonight! It's the same style you bought at her open house, but with different materials. It's super cute!)
