The Ex

Aaron and I had the misfortune of watching the movie "The Ex" tonight. I thought it would be a light, humorous film and I also figured that with Zach Braff and Jason Bateman, it would be a mix of "Scrubs", "Garden State" and "Arrested Development". Oh, how wrong I was.

The movie starts off with Tom (Zach Braff) and Sofia (Amanda Peet) in their tiny apartment in New York City. Sofia is pregnant and they are being cutesy wootsy with each other to illustrate how happy and well adjusted they are in their marriage.

So, they have the baby and then Tom gets fired from his job as a chef. What to do? Well, they decide that maybe they need to move back to the midwest (Ohio to be exact) and that Tom should take a job at the ad agency where Sofia's Dad works.

Then hilarity ensues, right? Try an uncomfortable reality so painful that I could barely watch. The ad agency office is horrible. Tom's "mentor", Chip Sanders (Jason Bateman), does everything he can to sabotage Tom, like leaving him to do a PowerPoint presentation he knows nothing about.

Meanwhile, Sofia hates staying home with the baby and not working (she used to be a lawyer). Oh, and Sofia and Tom's relationship gets all shitty and they fight a lot.

Then, a bunch of other bad stuff happens to Tom, but at the end, Tom and Sofia prevail and everyone lives happily ever after.

Don't waste an hour and a half of your life on this movie. You'd be better off channel surfing, watching bits of "The Real Wives of Orange County", QVC (Ooooh, I could use a humidifier!), the news, and last few scenes of an episode of "Seinfeld" (hey, it's the one about the puffy shirt!).
