No More Curves

I decided to cancel my membership at Curves. Why? Well, my reasons are threefold. One, Curves doesn't have a lot of variability in the workout that they offer. You just go there, do the 30 minute circuit of machines, stretch (and maybe do a few sit-ups) and call it macaroni. So, I was getting very bored with that routine. The second reason is that I want to go to a gym with ellipitcal machines, yoga classes and maybe a trainer to really amp up my workout and get me those Jessica Alba abs that I dream of.

But the third, and most compelling reason that I am quitting working out at Curves is this...one of the staff members started playing Jesus dance music. I kid you not. When I first heard it, I wasn't sure. The lyrics were saying, "Get ready for freedom", but I couldn't tell exactly what they were referencing between all the oom cha oom cha dance beats. I listened a little harder and heard mention of angels and rising up. It took the phrase, "God is awesome" to really hit home. I thought to myself, "OMFG, I am listening to religious techno!"

The music at Curves is hard to escape from, because it's pretty loud, so unless you have noise cancelling headphones, you would still hear their music. But even that wouldn't work too well, because you have to listen for the "change stations now" prompt to move to the next workout station, so listening to your own tunes isn't really a viable option. (I suppose I could ask them not to play the religious tunes, but I think it's just time for me to jump ship anyway.)

So, I put in my notice and I'm packing it in. Next stop, an iPod nano loaded with dance music (of the non denominational genre) and a membership at a real gym. Get ready for freedom, indeed.
