They Call Him Dr. Love

We had the honor of seeing Ssik last night. And let me just say that it was one of the best shows that I've see in a long time. Their costumes were amazing, they had excellent special effects (great smoke machine and strobe lights!), they sounded just like the real deal and they even had a lighted "Ssik" sign hanging on the back of the stage. It was awesome!

I especially liked the onstage banter that they had with the audience. "Are you ready to rock Georgetown? I said, Are you ready to rock, Georgetown?" I haven't screamed so much at a show since the time I saw Depeche Mode in tenth grade.

I also appreciated their great attention to detail. They had cool Ssik stickers that they passed out to everyone (as pictured to the right) and they even had custom made Ssik guitar picks that they tossed out to the crowd. (I snagged one for future use with my bass.)

The icing on the cake was when "Gene Simmons" spit fake blood out of his mouth. (At least, I'm assuming it was fake.) Always a crowd pleaser.

I think the birthday girl had a great birthday and I know that it was fun for Aaron and me to walk down memory lane and remember the first time we saw Ssik.

The only problem is that now I have "Dr. Love" playing on a continuous loop in my head. But I guess that's better than "Gorky Park".
