Black Is The New Red

While I like a deep red fingernail as much as the next girl, I'm not sure how I feel about black as a nail polish color choice. I seem to be in the minority, however, because a lot of starlets are snapping up this trend... Michelle Trachtenburg, Jessica Simpson and Lindsey Lohan, just to name a few. So, basically, what used to be a 99 cent addition to a witch costume, is now being peddled by Chanel.

Black nail polish reminds me of being in eighth grade when my friend Dee wanted to paint my nails on the bus, but we ended up doing just my pinkies because we were low on time. When I got home, my mom was convinced that I'd joined a cult.

My cult status aside, black nails will always remind me of Siouxsie Sioux and Robert Smith. (Which begs the question: What do the goths have now? Pink nails? It's so hard to keep up.)
