Jesus is Not Magic

Aaron and I rented "Jesus is Magic" the other night. I had never seen Sarah Silverman do stand-up before, but had heard good things about her, so I was game. And interestingly, it was directed by Liam Lynch, who went to high school with Aaron.

The set-up was fresh and new. There were songs and costume changes and montages, all of which I like very much. There was off-color humor, which can sometimes make you laugh in spite of yourself. (Remember when Cartman went around saying, "Heil Hitler" in that one episode in "South Park"? I know, it's terrible, but it made me giggle.)

However, freshness and edgy humor aside, I didn't like "Jesus is Magic" one bit. Sarah's humor just wasn't humorous. Call me a square, but I just can't handle jokes about 9/11, rape and AIDS, espcially when they're not funny.

I was praying to Jesus that this movie would be over quickly and it was a mere 72 minutes.

If you want funny Jews, stick to Seinfeld or John Stewart or check out the blog You Can't Make It Up by Michelle Collins. She's a funny jew, that girl.
