Thank Your For Smoking

We went to see "Thank You for Smoking" over the weekend. I knew the main character in the movie worked for "big tobacco", so I expected to hate him and find him repugnant. I was surprised, however, to actually be rooting for him and to find his antics amusing.

In addition to Aaron Eckhardt, who was great, there is also a fantastic supporting cast: William H. Macy, Maria Bello (who was great in "A History of Violence", which is also well worth a rental), Katie Holmes (who I don't mind as an actress, but I certainly don't condone her scary Scientology marriage), and even Rob Lowe has a small and very humorous role.

Even though you might think the movie would be filled with people puffing away, Aaron pointed out that nobody lit up in the entire movie! There is, however, one scene where Aaron Eckhardt's character fishes around in his pocket for his pack, but then finds that it's empty.

I won't spoil the ending, but I would highly recommend going to see this film while it's still in theatres. (But don't go to the Guild on 45th unless you have a pillow. Their seats have no cushion and it's hard on the derriere.)
