Just Call Me Picasso

Instead of spending a boatload of cash on wall art for the bedroom, I decided to go a cheaper route. My Mom said she'd seen a "Trading Spaces" episode where they did paintings on stretched canvas that they bought at an art store. They used some of the paint colors that they had used for the walls and went for an abstract look.

It sounded better than the episode where they stapled hay to the wall, so I thought I might give it a try. I went to Michael's and bought three canvasses. I already had acrylic paint from a previous foray into an art store for a different project. Next, all I needed was inspiration. So, I went looked at Target's website and printed out the abstract framed art that I liked so that I could copy it. Then I blew the whole project off for a few weeks...

One sunny Friday after work about two weeks ago, I got motivated and decided to tackle the painting project. After a few failed attempts at mixing the perfect taupe and burnt sienna, I created some good neutral tones and slapped them onto the canvas with a house painting brush. A bit of color here and a dash of texture there, and *presto*...abstract art that matched the walls for about $25. Roq la Rue, here I come.
