Yo' Mama Looks Like Tom Petty

I heard the song "American Girl" by Tom Petty on the radio the other day. (I quite like Tom Petty - Aaron even made me a "best of" CD, but I can't find it right now due to the packing chaos). Anyway, hearing the song reminded me of an afternoon in high school. I was hanging out with my friends and they were bickering like an old married couple. They got into a "Yo, Mama" one up kind of argument. Jesse was telling Gabe that his mom was an alcoholic (she had two crazy boys, I can't say I blamed her for hitting the Gallo wine from time to time) and Gabe was saying that Jesse's mom was a pot head. They went back and forth for a while and I was distracted (I was thinking, should I dye my hair with red henna again or streak it with Clairol highlights...hmmm) and then I snapped back when Gabe said, "Your Mom looks like Tom Petty." Ouch! Jesse was silent. I bit my lip to keep from laughing and Gabe looked like he wished he could take it back.

After a pregnant pause, Jesse said, "Yeah, ok. You're right. She does kind of look like Tom Petty." And it was true, Tom Petty was her doppelganger. But I guess that's better for a woman than looking like Roy Orbison, though...or is it?
