The first time I saw the so-called "Skinny Jeans", it was a fashion spread in InStyle about model mommies, like Kate Moss. Gwyneth Paltrow and Elle McPherson were featured, too. They were all wearing casual shirts and all had on impossibly tight jeans - tight, TAPERED jeans. Tapered like it was 1987. I blew it off, because why would I want to dress like a model mommy? To my horror, however, I saw skinny jeans on Banana Republic's website - home of my favorite boot-cut denim! Then it spread like a virus...Levi's is showing skinny jeans, I am seeing them in magazines and tabloids when I'm in line at the grocery store, and even the wretched 7 for all Mankind (which don't fit me right anyway) has a "peg leg" style...it's a travesty.
However, it seems that the evil skinny jeans are on sale a lot, so maybe we're just not ready here in the U.S. to revisit our middle school closets just yet. (I've noticed that the fashion conscious in the U.K. and Australia are slobbering over these jeans, though. Damn that Kate Moss. Where's an ass gnome when you need one?) But when we are ready to accept them into our wardrobes, I'll probably stuff myself into them - fashion whore that I am - just like with the pointy toed boots that I said I'd never wear and then bought four pairs. Although, they seem to be on the way out, which is too bad, because I had that foot surgery to make my feet fit into them...

So, does this mean "What Not To Wear" is going to have to reverse their advice and now start telling women to wear peg legs? Argh.
God help us! I hope not! I will start crying if they catch on - but worse would be skinny jeans with those zippers on the bottom of the pant leg - remember those? Guess jeans had them. -Shudder-
