Aaron and I rented "Heavy Metal Parking Lot" the other night. It just came out on DVD and is loaded with extras. Which is a good thing, because the actual documentary is only about 15 minutes long. I have been hearing people rave about this documentary for ages, so it had reached well beyond cult status for me. It sounded like the best movie ever, so my expectations were high.
If you haven't seen it yet, it's a documentary that was shot in a parking lot of a Judas Priest concert in Maryland in 1986. These two guys go around with a video camera and talk to all the metalheads hanging out drinking Coors Light in front of their Chevy Novas. They all say "Priest rules" and give the devil sign and then clink their beer cans together. The most entertaining person is the guy dressed head-to-toe in a zebra print spandex outfit.
The extras on this DVD make it worthwhile. It also includes "Neil Diamond Parking Lot", "Harry Potter Parking Lot", but the best part is when they track down some of the headbangers from "Heavy Metal Parking Lot" to see "where are they now?". And yes, they do find zebra guy and interview him. But you have to watch it to find out if he still favors animal prints.
