Father's Day at the Zoo

I took my Mom and Dad to the Woodland Park Zoo for Father's Day yesterday. It was a typically rainy June day in Seattle, but we made the best of it and got to see lots of animals.

My Dad really wanted to see the kimodo dragons, so that was one of our first stops. I think this is the female beause she was the smaller of the two. (The male had his backside to us, so I couldn't get a good picture of him.)

Next, we went to the Butterflies and Blooms exhibit. I hadn't been to that before and it was pretty neat! You can get really close to the butterflies to take pictures, so I got a nice shot of this little guy.

My favorite exhibit was the nocturnal house. We saw all kinds of bats, a sloth and some cute little armadillos. (My Dad threatened to bust out his night vision head lamp, but couldn't find any staff members to ask if that would be ok, so he refrained.) While we were looking at the bats, one of the larger bats was hanging upside down clinging to the wire mesh on the ceiling. Just as he looked like he was going to scale the glass window, he flew up, relieved himself (number 1 and 2) and flew away. It was quite a show. (Sadly, I didn't get any pics in the nocturnal house, since it was, well, nocturnal and very dark.)

Not only does the Woodland Park Zoo have wonderful animal exhibits, they also have quite a few cool sculptures. Like this one:

And this one:

It was a great day and I think it was a really good Father's Day present for my Dad. Much better than a paperweight or a tie tack. (Does anyone even wear tie tacks anymore?)
