Views From Near and Far

Since the weather has been getting nicer, I've been going on more walks in the neighborhood. (This should also help me to fit into those blasted pants. I kept the linen ones as a way to measure my progress.)

Before I go outside, I step out onto the deck to guage the temperature and am presented with this view:

In the distance, you can see a church spire to the right and a larger building to the left of the spire. As my walk progresses, I get closer and closer to these two buildings.

The larger building that I can see from my deck is this monastery (I think it's Buddhist - are all monasteries Buddhist? Ah, apparently not - thanks Wikipedia.):

It is surrounded by lush flowers and also some prayer wheels. If you pass by, feel free to spin the prayer wheels, but don't reach out with your left hand, because then you will be walking counter-clockwise, and thus spinning the wheels counter-clockwise, which is a no-no. I did that once and a monk sprinted out and turned all the wheels so that they were spinning clock-wise. (Another reason it can sometimes be an impairment to be a leftie.)

After the monastery, I pass a Catholic church.

It boasts the spire that I can see from my deck. It has beautiful architecture and also rings church bells occasionally, which sound lovely and make me feel like I'm back in Europe. (Or at an AA Meeting - they always seem to meet in churches...not that I would know from personal experience, but we used to live by a church in Olympia, and it seemed like they had more AA Meetings than church services.)

It's wonderful to walk through Greenwood in the spring! I'll bring you more pictures of the 'hood as I take them. Stay tuned!
