Art Walk

Aaron and I went to check out the Greenwood-Phinney Art Walk on Saturday.

I missed it last year, so didn't really have a clear idea of what it would be like. I thought they have art out in the street, like a fair or something. But that wasn't the case.

The art is displayed in participating shops/restaurants along Greenwood and Phinney. (In many cases, the artist is present, as well, to answer questions and help you if you want to buy one of his/her pieces.) We picked up a program, which listed all the venues, artists, and art mediums (like silk screen, oil, acrylics, etc.).

It was a great opportunity to see art for free and also to get to know our neighborhood better. My favorite piece was a silk screened print by Moth Press (which was displayed at Mud Bay Granary). The print that we liked was not shown on their website (as far as I can see), but Aaron and I almost bought a print that had a picture of the Aurora Bridge and some birds and flowers. It sounds average, but it was pretty cool. We may still get it...

Along our tour, we also stumbled upon an new coffee shop called Seven Coffee Roasters.

They serve drip coffee that is made to order by the cup. (The first time I saw this coffee making process was at Stumptown Roasters in Portland, and it was tasty.) We didn't actually have any coffee because it was too crowded with other art walkers, but will be going back soon to invesigate further.

In addition to art, we (and by "we", I mean "I") also got to do a bit of shopping. I had the good fortune to get to check out a shop called Allusia (down the street from Ken's Market), Hip Zephyr and the Frock Shop.

Both Allusia and the Frock Shop had tempting wares. The Frock Shop had the cutest necklaces (They were reversible! One side had one pattern and the other side had a similar pattern in different colors. Ingenius. It's like two necklaces for the price of one, at $38) and Allusia had wonderful stationery and gift items. Hip Zephyr reminded me of Olivine in Ballard - very cool stuff, but too expensive for me. (And, if you're interested in reading about shops in your neighborhood, check out Seattle Chic - it's a great resource for shopping in your 'hood.)

To cap off our afternoon, Aaron and I stopped at Herkimer's Coffee for a refreshing beverage and then made our way home.

(But don't think for a second that I won't be heading back to the Frock Shop for one of those necklaces in the very near future...)
